How can I get my Epson Stylus SX105 printer to recognise non-Epson ink cartridges?
Ellis asked:
For over a year now, we’ve used our Epson stylus sx105 printer with non-standard, non-epson cartridges. As the boxes say, they are compatible with the printer (but are loads cheaper). Now for no apparent reason, the printer doesn’t recognise them, even though the ones loaded in the printer still have ink in them. Why, after so long of using the exact same cartridges, has this happened? Is there a way that I can reconfigure the printer so that I don’t have to buy the more expensive official cartridges?

You have a bad chip – it happens. Take the cartridge back, nothing you can do is going to make it work.

Best and Cheapest way around it is to get a CISS for your printer. Go to and buy a CISS for your printer. It will save you tons of money, you never change cartridges and never run out of ink [yes, you do have to fill the tanks once in a while] Bulk ink is cheap. The CISS will pay for itself in a month. Don’t forget to get a Waste Ink Container, it hooks up to the printer and instead of the unusable ink going to the waste ink pad, it goes to the container which can then be emptied, washed and used over and over. The waste ink pad when full will need to be replaced or the printer will not print. Changing the pad is messy and a PITA. I use the above setup for my Epson CX9400F and would never do without it.
